Omguru received formal theatre training under renowned Gujarati playwright Late Shri Hasmukh Baradi from 1994 to 1996. In 1996, Omguru staged his self-written experimental Gujarati play Pani Re Pani at Darpana Academy. The play was highly appreciated by legendary dancer Late Smt. Mrinalini Sarabhai, who praised both the production and Omguru’s creative vision.


His second experimental Gujarati play, Oxygen Khatam Chhe, was also performed at Darpana Academy. The performance was attended by Smt. Mallika Sarabhai, who commended OmGuru for his direction of the play.


Omguru has been associated with both the Gujarati and Hindi film industries, maintaining professional relationships with several prominent artists. In 1997, he worked with Gujarati cinema superstar Upendra Trivedi on two urban Gujarati films titled Ameer-Gareeb and Sher Par Sava Sher. Although neither film was released, Omguru shared a close professional association with the legendary actor. In 2013, through Cine Aishwarya Magazine, Omguru presented Upendra Trivedi with a Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony held at Thakorbhai Desai Hall.


In 1999, Omguru met renowned Gujarati actress Ragini to discuss a theatrical script. He later sold the script to director Rajesh Soni. Omguru also wrote a Gujarati screenplay titled Badlo. According to Omguru, the Hindi film Kartoos (1999) was developed based on the story and screenplay of his Gujarati script.


In 2002, two devotional songs written by Omguru were recorded by renowned Gujarati bhajan singer Hemant Chauhan.Veteran folk singer Praful Dave also performed songs dedicated to Omguru, with lyrics written by Govind Mere. These devotional songs were released in audio CD format and received appreciation from followers of the Omkar Sampraday.


In 2009, Omguru founded the Ahmedabad International Film Festival (AIFF), establishing an international platform dedicated to promoting Gujarati, Indian, and world cinema while encouraging independent filmmakers and emerging talent. Since its inception, AIFF has evolved into one of India’s respected international film festivals, welcoming filmmakers, actors, technicians, and delegates from around the world.


In 2011, the Dadasaheb Phalke Foundation honoured Gujarati cinema legend Late Naresh Kanodia with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Omguru organized the felicitation ceremony at Jayashankar Sundari Hall, attended by Mahesh Kanodia, Mahesh-Naresh,Roma Manek, Vikram Thakor, and several leading personalities from the Gujarati film industry.


In 2012, the Cine Aishwarya Awards were organized under the leadership of Omguru at the GMDC Convention Centre, Ahmedabad, where he served as the Chief Guest. During the ceremony, Ashit Desai, Ghanshyam Nayak, Bhavini Jani, and several distinguished Gujarati artists were honoured with Lifetime Achievement Awards.


The same event also witnessed the official teaser launch of director Abhishek Jain’s debut Gujarati film Kevi Rite Jaish? in his presence. During the ceremony, Omguru’s ghazal collection Kan Kan Ma Omkar was formally released by Manhar Udhas, Parimal Nathwani, Bhavan Bharwad, and Ghanshyam Nayak.
In 2014, Omguru co-produced the Gujarati feature film Vidhaata with Hiten Kumar and Suresh Bhagat. He also remained actively associated with Hindi film productions alongside Suresh Bhagat. Hiten Kumar has continued to maintain a close professional association with OmGuru over the years.


As a filmmaker, Omguru has directed several Gujarati actors, including Jayendra Mehta, Dipen Rawal, Shweta Rawal, Kishore Thakkar, Hitesh Thakar, Akash Zala, and Rahul Rawal, in his short films.
As a writer and director, Omguru has created short films such as Gamdhani, Vardan Ke Shrap, Mind Game, and Paakit, all produced under his own production banner, Omguru Films. OmGuru has frequently interacted with celebrated actors Ghanshyam Nayak and Tanmay Vekaria, while Gujarati film superstar Hitu Kanodia has also remained closely associated with him.


International dancers Bharat Baria and Akshay Patel have been devoted followers of Omguru.
Renowned writer Taarak Mehta, creator of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, remained a devotee of Omguru during the final three years of his life.


Apart from theatre and cinema, Omguru has also contributed significantly to the field of music as a music director, lyricist, and composer. His devotional compositions include Omkar Chalisa, rendered by Hasmukh Patadiya; Om Shri 12 Jyotirling Chalisa and Sundarkand Chalisa, sung by Parth Oza; and Navdurga Chalisa, performed by Payal Vakharia. In addition, more than 50 devotional bhajans written by Omguru have been recorded by several renowned playback singers, reflecting his enduring contribution to Indian devotional music.


Ahmedabad International Film Festival (AIFF) 2024


The 15th Ahmedabad International Film Festival (AIFF) 2024, held under the leadership of Omguru, celebrated outstanding achievements in cinema while also recognizing exceptional contributions to literature, social service, and business. The festival brought together filmmakers, actors, writers, technicians, and creative professionals from India and abroad, reaffirming AIFF’s commitment to promoting artistic excellence, creativity, and cultural values.


One of the major highlights of AIFF 2024 was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Awards. Padma Shri Kanubhai Hasmukhbhai Tailor was honoured with the Om Rushi Seva Ratna Award. Shree Madhav Ramanuj received the Om Rushi Sahitya Ratna Award, while Shree Yagnesh Pandya was presented with the Om Rushi Seva Ratna & Business Award.


The festival recognized excellence across documentaries, advertising, animation, visual effects, editing, storytelling, screenplay, cinematography, music videos, original music, and background music.
Award recipients included Utsav Mishra, Sanju Kava ,Gayatri Hiraskar, Sachin Badhe,Dharmesh Chanchadiya, Sanjay Prajapati, Kajal Mehta, Jasur Rustamov, Maulik Mehta, and Raki Sonu for their outstanding work in their respective categories.


In the Feature Film Competition, Bhavini Jani, Nisarg Trivedi, Akhilesh Pandey, and Kirtan Patel received major honours, while Ittee Kittaa won Best Feature Film and Vada received the Best Foreign Film Award. The Jury also presented Special Mention Awards to Nasoor and Kanubhai the Great.
The Short Film Competition honoured Vikas Thorat, Vibha Ghanmode, Tapan Prajapati, Jolly Rathod, Ravi Karnwal, J. Jegadeeshwaran, and Prakriti Sau. The Jury also presented a Special Mention to Chappal: The Story of Migrant Labours.


Under the leadership of Omguru, AIFF 2024 successfully celebrated excellence in cinema while honouring distinguished personalities from the fields of filmmaking, literature, business, and social service, further strengthening its position as one of India’s respected international film festivals.

Ahmedabad International Film Festival (AIFF) 2025

The 16th Ahmedabad International Film Festival (AIFF) 2025, held at Tagore Hall, Ahmedabad, was successfully organized under the leadership of Omguru, bringing together filmmakers, actors, technicians, and cinema enthusiasts from India and across the world. The festival featured an extensive awards programme across Feature Films, Short Films, Documentaries, Animation, Student Projects, Music Videos, International Cinema, VFX, Editing, Screenplay, Story, Cinematography, Background Music, Costume & Makeup, Special Effects, and several other creative and technical categories.


The festival also presented Festival Mention Awards to Rajkummar Rao and Tushar Hiranandani for Srikanth, along with Kartik Aaryan and Kabir Khan for Chandu Champion. Among the winners in the Short Film Competition were Shahid Kabeer, Dr. Chetna Chauhan, Himansh Kohli, Rohit Roy, Nimbhorkar Tanvi,Sujoy Mukharjee, Sanatan, Aashish Bathri, Ashish Sahu, Yug Uikey, Jigyasa Singh, Hitarth Gajjar, Kenil Shah, Alcon Ravi, M. Subramaniya, Kandarp Joshi, Dr. Sunil Koli, Anish Parag Shah, Dilip Vasudeo, Sandeep Vasant Rasal, Kruti Bhut, Santhosh R, Ananthan S, Sanjai Chandrasekaran, Sunder Konar, Aashmani Pramod Bhadane, and Prabhat Sardar.


In the Feature Film Competition, honours were presented to Sharib Hashmi, Priyanka Bhole, Chaithra P, T. Sunil Punnakkad, Akankansha Pandey, Bhaswati Bora, Snehal Deshmukh, Radhakrishnan Parthiban, and Vishal Thakkar. The festival also celebrated global talent through its Foreign Short Film and Foreign Feature Film competitions. Award recipients included Vivek Suresh, Lorrana Flores, Jemuel Cendrick Razon Satumba, Maria Kubantseva, Rosella Age, Ashish Sharma, Rahma Sobhy Abd El Moneam, Sandip Kumar Mistry, Alexis Michel, Rob Boyd, Chaitanya Thard, Oussama Chibani, Mani Chandra Gudipudi, Miguel Angel Mengó, Christian Canderan, Laurice Guillen, Mohsen Seraji, and Joselito Altarejos.


With hundreds of nominations, numerous award categories, and participation from distinguished artists and filmmakers worldwide, AIFF 2025, under the leadership of Omguru, further strengthened its reputation as one of India’s leading international film festivals, providing a dynamic platform for filmmakers while promoting cinematic excellence, cultural exchange, and creative achievement.

Over the years, there have been opportunities to meet and interact with several renowned personalities from the Indian film and television industry through various events, functions, film projects, and professional collaborations. These include celebrated personalities such as Satyaki Misra, Aruna Irani, Kuku Kohli, Firoz Irani, Manoj Mishra, Ilaiyaraaja, Mammootty, Arvind Trivedi (1938–2021), Arvind Rathod (1938–2021), Chetan Raval, Tarika Tripathi, Varun Kapoor, Govindbhai Patel (1943–2015), Dharmendra (1935–2025), Rekha, Vinod Khanna, and Anil Sharma. These valuable professional interactions and associations have been an important part of the journey within the Indian film and entertainment industry.


The 17th Ahmedabad International Film Festival (AIFF) 2026 is scheduled to be held at Tagore Hall, Ahmedabad, from 29 September to 2 October 2026, bringing together filmmakers, artists, and cinema enthusiasts from across the world to celebrate excellence in global cinema.
