Upasana Singh Breaks Silence on Leaving Kapil Sharma’s Show
Upasana Singh, widely recognized for her role as Pinky Bua in the hit show Comedy Nights with Kapil, entertained millions with her comedic brilliance. However, her journey with Kapil Sharma took a turn when Kapil moved from Colors TV to Sony, leading Upasana to part ways with the show and join Krushna Abhishek’s comedy program. After years of silence, Upasana has finally opened up about her decision to leave Kapil’s show.
Caught Between Two Giants
In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Upasana revealed that she found herself entangled in the feud between Kapil Sharma and Krushna Abhishek. She said,
“For 28 years, our show was number one, and very few achieve such success. But there came a time when I had nothing to do. I even told Kapil that I had no disputes with him. Many people think I left due to disagreements, but that’s not true.”
Contractual Constraints
Elaborating on her departure, Upasana clarified that her contract was with Colors TV, not Kapil Sharma or his team.
“Kapil had some issues with Colors, but my contract was still active with them. When Kapil moved to Sony, Colors insisted I fulfill my obligations and join Krushna’s show. This created an uncomfortable situation as I was caught between two competing teams,” she shared.
Creative Frustrations
Upasana admitted that her experience became challenging when her creative input was undervalued.
“I spoke to Kapil, asking for more focus on my character as I wasn’t enjoying it anymore. However, Kapil was busy trying to establish himself as a film hero. On top of that, my punchlines were often edited out, which was frustrating. There was no point in staying if I couldn’t give my best.”
The Move to Krushna’s Show
Her transition to Krushna’s show brought its own challenges.
“There was tension between the two teams. When I joined Krushna’s team, people would stop talking when I entered the room. My lines were sometimes cut, and the atmosphere wasn’t welcoming. It was exhausting, and I eventually decided to leave,” Upasana explained.
Why She Didn’t Return to Kapil’s Show
When asked why she didn’t return to Kapil’s show, Upasana cited her dissatisfaction with how things unfolded.
“Kapil invited me back, but by then, I had started producing Punjabi films. I wasn’t satisfied with the work environment. Despite our good relationship—Kapil even did a voiceover for one of my films—I had no interest in revisiting the show,” she concluded.
A New Beginning
Upasana Singh’s journey highlights the challenges actors face behind the scenes, from creative differences to contractual constraints. Today, she’s focused on her ventures as a film producer, proving that change can lead to new opportunities.
